Notes

Newly formed Centra Eagles made a winning start to their 2012 campaign in Division 5 with a comprehensive victory away from home against Seasiders at Gildredge Park,
a game which saw Centra Eagles win by 23 runs, thanks to the batting display of Jacob Archer and the bowling of both Jake Lambert who took his first five wicket haul and Amy Marsden who took 4 wickets respectively.

With the Eagles winning the toss, Christopher Marsden elected to field first in what proved to be a wise decision. Having selected a strong bowling attack, both the efforts of Lambert and A.Marsden proved to be far too testing for the Seasiders, limiting them to just the one boundary in their entire innings.

Once Jake had made the initial break through in the 5th over, the bowling exploits of both him and Amy began to tell, with wickets tumbling regularly. The Seasiders innings though could have been wrapped up much quicker by the Eagles had Jake not made hard work of some routine run outs, however, not letting this affect his game he carried on and got his rewards, taking 5 wickets.

Limiting the Seasiders to 97 runs was a great effort from the Eagles, however, they will need to be more disciplined in the field when they play the Wombles next week and not give away needless extra runs. There was also some impressive fielding performances, most notably from Ben Collins, who proved solid and took an impressive catch as well as their wicket keeper Simon Marsden who played despite having an injured ankle.

With the sun setting and the visibility dropping fast, the Eagles wanted to make a quick start and that is exactly what they did. Jacob Archer taking the game by the scruff of the neck and smashing 9 sixes in an innings where he hit an impressive knock of 57. Truly a match winning performance. After hitting out, Adam Molloson replaced Jacob and joined his wife Gemma in the middle and managed a decent 10 runs and Gemma 9. Eager to show his worth, Thomas Marsden was next in but only managed 3 runs, a disappointing start to his season, but is determined to show what he can do in their next game.

Jake followed with the departure of Thomas and with 30 runs still needed, steadied the ship hitting 27 not out and saw the Eagles coast home with Charlee Southall (7 runs) with 3 overs remaining. Both Louise Carder and Amy Marsden had brief stints in the middle and managed 1 run a piece.

The winning start to the campaign is something that they will enjoy, but wont be resting on their laurels and when Monday comes they all know it is back to business against a decent Wombles side.

Man of the Match: Jacob Archer
