A plan to spread stoolball in Horsham

Monday 3 April 2017, 8.44pm

The newly formed Horsham District Stoolball Association is aiming to promote and invigorate all forms of stoolball in and around Horsham in various formats: mixed, ladies and juniors.

Stoolball England has been helping Horsham District Council with its ‘Playing Pitch Strategy’, a survey of sports fields that is carried out every 10 to 15 years. As part of this exercise, Stoolball England reported that a number of village and town teams have been lost in the area over the last 20 years, hence the need for positive action. The Horsham District Stoolball Association seeks to re-establish stoolball in the villages of Ashington, Billingshurst, Cowfold, Henfield, Southwater, Thakeham, Upper Beeding and West Chiltington and also Horsham.

Initiatives will include supporting the popular Set4Success charity inter-business stoolball tournament in June, helping with the annual Horsham Primary Schools Stoolball Festival at Horsham Cricket Club and promoting Broadbridge Heath Stoolball Club’s successful Junior Academy which is held in the summer holidays.

Any areas, individuals or organisations that wish to try out stoolball or start up a team in the Horsham District should contact the Acting Secretary, Richard Emsley, richard@… or phone 07708 197740.
