4. Matters arising from the last Management meeting

Any matters arising would be discussed in later agenda items.

5. Treasurer’s report

Trevor Parsons reported an overall drop in the sales of equipment but this could probably be attributed to the cancellation of some of the larger events and tournaments. He asked that equipment agents be contacted to give him details of their stock levels so that an end of financial year stock take could be calculated.

6. Small Grants application

Due to the cancellation of several community events during the summer which were part of our funding application, Stoolball England have been granted an extension to the end of September 2013 to allow us to complete this part of the project. A bowling machine and 2 banners have been purchased and the print work on the batting cage is currently being finalised.

7. National Ladies Team

Nominations from 35 players have been received and these will be reduced to 2 teams and 2 reserves per team following the training sessions. A panel of selectors with representatives from Surrey, Kent and Sussex will assess the nominated players. Catering has been organised for the match day and there will be a raffle with the proceeds going to Help For Heroes and Cancer Research.

8. Reports from members of the Management Committee

  • Richard Emsley: After a slow start this year, Richard will be continuing his club survey more vigorously next summer.
  • Shirley Reed: Midhurst Stoolball Club has enquired about the possibility of a claim following the theft of their stoolball equipment. This will be pursued with Michael Ledwich.
  • John and Kay Price: Unable to attend the fifth and final Wealden “Active Days” event at Uckfield due to a funeral.

9. Any other business

  • Anita Broad is representing Stoolball England at a Heritage event at Telscombe Tye on 8 September. On 9 September Stoolball England will be at Chichester for the final community event of the summer. Trevor Parsons has volunteered to go with John and Kay Price.
  • Following attendance at Crowborough for the second of the Wealden “Active Days”, Stoolball England have been approached by David Shaw, a member of Crowborough District Council, to help him start a ladies stoolball team in the town. David is writing an article about stoolball for the local paper and will be approaching ladies in the local netball, hockey and football clubs.
  • Gilbert White Museum in Selborne, Hants – a demonstration of stoolball was provided by members of Steep Stoolball Club at a Mediaeval Games event.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 10.10pm.

Next meeting: Monday 24 September at 7.45pm at 53 Kings Road Horsham.
