Minutes of Management Meeting, March 2012

The Management Committee of Stoolball England met at 53 Kings Road, Horsham on Monday 26 March 2012 at 7.45pm.

1. Present

2. Apologies for absence

3. Minutes of the last Management meeting

There was one amendment requested to Item 13 (a) where the word “patent” was replaced by “copyright”. The minutes of the last meeting were then approved and signed as a true record.

4. Matters arising from the last Management meeting

  • The approved Strategy document has been included on the website
  • The level 1 course due to be held at Alfold Village Hall on 23/24 March was unfortunately cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of Stoolball England
  • The 2012 rule book has been printed and is being circulated
  • The artwork for the large scorebook and the tournament scorebook is ready to be printed
  • Schools coaching:
    • Horsham – 6 schools will be taking part in coaching this summer and the Schools Festival will take place at Horsham Cricket Club on 11 July
    • Crawley – Northgate Primary School have asked for a taster session
    • East Sussex – Etchingham (for both teachers and students), Crowhurst and King Offa Primary Schools in the Rother District Council area have asked for coaching sessions and the Rother
      Schools Festival will take place at the Polegrove ground in Bexhill on 27 June
  • England ladies team – provisional training days to be booked at Horsham County Cricket ground in September
  • Stoolball club survey – Richard Emsley will provide an update on his progress at the next meeting
  • Two more funding applications to Horsham District Council and Sussex Community were submitted in February which if successful will help towards the funding of our coaching activities this summer
  • Stoolball England Management Committee members will be meeting with Eastbourne Red Triangle members on 27 March at “The Treacle Mine” in Polegate. There was a request from Rick Mason for an updated list of their 2011 league placings.
  • Community Sports Events – “Active Wealden Days” organised by the Community Development team at Wealden District Council in East Sussex will take place from 10-1pm at Polegate (25 July), Crowborough (1 August), Heathfield (8 August), Hailsham (15 August) and Uckfield (22 August) and Stoolball England has expressed an interest in attending these events.

5. Treasurer’s report

Trevor Parsons reported that there was a surplus for the period of £111.59. He also reported that a sum of money had been received from the treasurer of the old Brighton & District Mixed Stoolball League. A letter of thanks will be sent to the treasurer and it was agreed that this money should be used to support the mixed game and help new clubs get started.

6. Umpires’ and Scorers’ course at Plumpton Cricket Club update

Currently there are 7 umpires and 4 scorers registered and a request for more candidates will be put on the website.

7. Reports from members of the Management Committee

Michael Ledwich reported that quotes had been received from three insurance companies and their offers will be considered.

Rick Mason had nothing to report on the website.

8. Any other business

  • Ben Morris the editor of AAH, a freebie magazine which is distributed in the Horsham area, is meeting up with members of Stoolball England at the beginning of April. His publication frequently features local sports and teams and he would like to write about stoolball and learn about the clubs playing in the Horsham area. Ten clubs have been contacted and asked to provide contact and fixture details.
  • Rick Mason showed members the Stoolball England hoodie that he has purchased on the internet.
  • Governance: Michael Ledwich requested a meeting with John Price to discuss the responsibilities of Stoolball England before the next meeting at the end of April.
  • Horsham Schools Festival: Michael Ledwich asked if Meath Green Primary School in Horley could receive an invite to this event and the Management Committee was fully in support of this request.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9.40pm.
