Players wanted for Commemorative Day of Stoolball

Thursday 21 August 2008, 4.18pm

The Sussex County Stoolball Association will be staging the 32nd Day of Stoolball at Wivelsfield Recreation Ground on Wednesday 3 September 2008, starting at 11am. This social day of competitive stoolball was started in 1977 to mark the Queen’s 25th anniversary of her accession to the throne. Teams for this day are selected from ladies all over Sussex, young and old, who would like to participate (and who can take time off work to play). Young players and children are particularly welcome.

All we ask when you give your names in is that you state whether you are a batsman, bowler, all rounder or utility player (mainly a fielder but can bat a bit). Everyone who sends in their name will play and if you would like to be part of this Day of Stoolball, please contact Kay Price, Chairman, Sussex County Stoolball Association on 01403 252419 or by e-mail kay@…. You will all be made very welcome.

The plan for the day is as follows:

  • 10.15am onwards: Tea/Coffee/Biscuits – no charge
  • 11am: Games commence on two pitches, usually 10 overs per innings
  • 1.15pm approx: Lunch is served at a small cost of £2.50 (main course, dessert, cheese and biscuits)
  • 2.30pm: More games
  • 3.30pm: Tea – sandwiches, cake and liquid refreshment at minimum charge
  • 4pm:Â Â Â More games
  • 5pm:   Presentations are made to the winning team, and there is a small gift given to everyone attending. There is also a small raffle on the day.

This is a lovely way to end the season and is a good social occasion.

Sunday 7 September: Sussex Knock-Out Cup Final at Nutley. Play starts at 2pm.

Sunday 14 September: Sussex League Championship for Seniors and Juniors at Plumpton starting at 11.30am, and including the   final of the Mid Division August League.
