Hailsham Stoolball League recently held its AGM and has 10 mixed teams signed up for the next season, which starts in the first week in May. Sadly, long standing members Marshfoot were unable to get a side this year, but Hailsham MI has entered a new team to fill the gap. Applications from new teams for this season would be most welcome.

Matches are played on Thursdays, and teams are accepted within a 15 mile radius of Hailsham. We are particularly trying to encourage youngsters to play, and are hoping to run a separate competition this year involving school age children.

Update: It’s too late to join for the 2007 season as matches have been arranged. However, teams in the league will still be looking for players for 2007, and new teams will be welcome again next year.

Barcombe Stoolball Club is holding a mixed stoolball tournament on 13 August from 11am at Barcombe recreation ground. There will be a bar, BBQ and other stalls. Teams should consist of 8 players (maximum of 4 men) and everyone is welcome to enter a team. Barcombe Stoolball Club is holding a mixed stoolball tournament on 9 July from 11am at Barcombe recreation ground. There will be a bar, BBQ and other stalls. Teams should consist of 4 men and 4 women, and everyone is welcome to enter a team. Maresfield Stoolball Club is looking for teams of 8 ladies for its annual tournament on 25 June 2006. They also need mixed teams of 4-6 players for a quiz night on 20 May to raise funds for the club.

If you would like to enter a team for the tournament, please contact Chantelle on 07901 551581 or 01892 531993. You’ll need to arrive at Maresfield Recreation Ground at 11am, for an 11.30 start.

The quiz night costs £5 per person, which includes a chip supper. You’ll need to arrive at
the Village Hall in Maresfield at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. If you would like to enter a team please contact Chantelle on one of the numbers given above.

Nutley Ladies are holding a tournament on Sunday 4 June, stating at 10.30am. The tournament will take place at Fords Green, Nutley. For information, or to enter a team, ring 01825 768267.

The Red Triangle Stoolball League, initiated by the YMCA in 1955, is looking for a sponsor for the next two years to help celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2005.

Stoolball continues to be a very popular sport throughout this part of the country and the Red Triangle League has over 1000 players playing in six divisions throughout Eastbourne and District.

The sponsor’s name will appear on all scorecards, associated publicity and be mentioned in the regular reports in the local paper. Please contact Eastbourne and District Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber Office.
