Stedham wins Rest of League tournament

Tuesday 17 August 2010

A very humid day at Plumpton on 8 August brought together those teams which had finished in fifth place or below in the Sussex County Stoolball Associations’ five divisions for the 2010 Rest of the League tournament.

With eleven teams playing in two sections, spectators had an excellent day of non-stop stoolball as batsmen from all teams hit the ball vast distances over the boundary – one even finishing on the railway line 65 metres from the wicket. Leading this batting onslaught were Grace Bull (Bolney) with 133 runs and Maggie Smith (East Grinstead) with 126 runs, but way out in front was Sarah Downs (Stedham) who took the trophy for “most runs” with a staggering 279 runs from four matches. Other individual honours went to Heather Cresswell (Yapton) with 7 wickets and Judy Dryland (Hurstpierpoint) with 5 catches.

Angmering wins Seaford tournament

Sunday 8 August 2010

The 54th tournament for the Sussex County Cup took place at the Salts Recreation Ground at Seaford on Sunday 1 August 2010 with the leading 18 teams from the five divisions of the Sussex County Stoolball Association taking part. Playing on 4 pitches, the 32 round-robin matches eventually produced the four winners to play in the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, Horsted Keynes finally overtook Ashington’s score in the last over thanks to an overthrow which raced to the boundary. The second game between Angmering and Horsham produced a tied game at the end of their four over match and as a result another two overs were played to find a winning team. This game proved just as nail-biting but in the end Angmering just squeezed home by a single run in a 31-30 victory.

Players wanted for Commemorative Day of Stoolball

Thursday 21 August 2008

The Sussex County Stoolball Association will be staging the 32nd Day of Stoolball at Wivelsfield Recreation Ground on Wednesday 3 September 2008, starting at 11am. This social day of competitive stoolball was started in 1977 to mark the Queen’s 25th anniversary of her accession to the throne. Teams for this day are selected from ladies all over Sussex, young and old, who would like to participate (and who can take time off work to play). Young players and children are particularly welcome.

All we ask when you give your names in is that you state whether you are a batsman, bowler, all rounder or utility player (mainly a fielder but can bat a bit). Everyone who sends in their name will play and if you would like to be part of this Day of Stoolball, please contact Kay Price, Chairman, Sussex County Stoolball Association on 01403 252419 or by e-mail [email address available when you sign in]. You will all be made very welcome.
