An excellent and almost exhaustive report, but there is no reference to the 'huddle', which I regard as the highlight of the evening. It was the only way to keep warm.

A very strong team was fielded by The Ellie tonight. Apparently, this included some first-timers but I have my doubts. Laura hit her "first ever ball" for a straight 4 and proceeded to score 13 off 7 balls before being caught by Trevor. The Ellie's two guest Canadian players also put in performances which were certainly not typical of first-timers both in the batting and fielding stakes. For the Arms team, it appeared at times that the ball was made of butter, with some hilarious misfields and too many dropped catches. At one stage for Bill, the whole pitch had changed into butter as he fell flat on his face whilst trying to throw the ball back to wicket. Ronaldo would have been proud of him (sorry ManU fans)!

However, on with the details. The Ellie started quite slowly, with some excellent early bowling from Clare (2 for 9) including the mighty Declan out for a duck. More wickets came from Ian (3 for 6) and Rachel (1 for 4). But then The Ellie's Ollie and Carla turned the tables on the Arms' bowlers, Ollie scoring 36 off 11 balls before being caught in the air by Barry. Sam replaced Ollie, but after hitting his first ball for a 6, was again caught in the air by Barry. Phew! Carla continued to a score of 15 before being nonchalantly caught on the boundary with a one-hander from Phil. Top batting scores for the Ellie were: Ollie (36), Carla (15), Glen and Laura (13 each). Top bowlers from the Arms were Ian (3 for 6), Clare (2 for 9), Amanda (2 for 10).
    Total: 134 after 13 overs.

The Lewes Arms opened their innings steadily with Steph and Steve collecting 14 off 13 balls, Steve being prematurely run out after facing only 9 balls. However, Phil came to the rescue and clocked up 37 runs (including 2x6's and 2x4's) to keep the Arms' average 10 per over well within sight. Clare played her best innings to date, scoring a handsome 20 to settle the team's fortunes. Later Barry added a further 21 (1x6) to secure the match. Trevor had an unlucky night, scoring only 1 before being caught out by Mule's quirky bowling! Top batting scores for the Arms were Phil (37), Barry (21), Clare (20). Top bowlers from the Ellie were Declan (2 for 12), Kirsty (2 for 13), Len (1 for 6).
    Total: 141 after 13 overs

I think we all really enjoyed tonight's game and the food back at the Ellie was bloody good too!!! Thanks to Norma for scoring and Pat and Roger for Umpiring.
