Chairman’s welcome and introduction to the revised constitution

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the Extraordinary General Meeting of the National Stoolball Association which was being held to approve the new constitution which would replace the document approved in 2004. The revised document had previously been circulated to all the officers of the association, Vice-Presidents and to the affiliated and associate members. In opening the meeting the Chairman explained that the entry of the NSA into the BingoLotto scheme promoted by ISG in conjunction with the Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) meant that the NSA had to be established as a non-profit-making organisation. This had been approved by members at the Annual General Meeting in November 2007 and was now written into the constitution.

In addition to this, the NSA had set up a working party to look at the existing document and this resulted in some small housekeeping changes to the constitution, ie the NSA can now co-opt additional officers to undertake the increase in workload as it arises. It was also necessary to make changes to the child protection and equity statements to recognise legislative changes.

At the request of the meeting, the Secretary quickly went through each item of the new constitution and expanded on the reasons for the amendments. There were no requests for further elaboration and accordingly a vote was taken and the 2008 constitution was unanimously approved (17 votes to nil) by the meeting.  The Chairman thanked everyone for their attendance. The meeting closed at 11.25am.

Kay and John Price, 9 March 2008
